CANONSBURG HYDROSEEDING
Canonsburg Hydroseeding offers a superior method of establishing a lawn turf through the spraying of a specially prepared soil with a slurry mixture containing grass seed, paper mulch, fertilizer, and additional additives. This process surpasses the traditional approach of broadcasting or sowing dry seeds.
What is the cost of hydroseeding?
The cost of hydroseeding can vary depending on factors such as soil conditions and site characteristics. Soil containing rocks, slopes, or other debris may require additional preparation time before hydroseed application. While broadcasting dry seed by hand or with a spreader may be cheaper initially, hydroseeding offers a significantly higher germination rate.
How long does it take for hydro grass to grow?
The growth of hydroseeded lawns typically begins within 5 to 7 days, depending on factors such as temperature, moisture, and seed variety. The rye grass and fescue components of the seed mixture usually germinate within 5 to 10 days, while the bluegrass portion may take anywhere from 24 to 28 days to germinate.
Is it possible to overseed an existing lawn with hydroseed?
Absolutely! Over seeding an existing lawn with hydroseed is an excellent choice.
Is watering necessary after hydroseeding?
Yes, watering is essential for the success of hydroseeding. To promote seed germination, the newly hydroseeded area must remain consistently moist for a couple of weeks. The seed is protected within the paper mulch slurry, which helps retain moisture. It is recommended to water the area in short intervals, preferably in the morning, noon, and evening. The goal is to keep the seed moist without overwatering.
How should I maintain my newly seeded lawn?
Upon completion of your hydroseeding project, our professionals will provide you with a Lawn Care brochure containing valuable information on maintaining your newly seeded lawn. It includes best practices to ensure its successful establishment.
When can I expect to see the lawn of my dreams?
While hydroseeding is an excellent method for establishing a new lawn, it's important to note that it takes time and effort to achieve a healthy and thriving lawn. It may take up to a year for a properly hydroseeded lawn to fully establish. During this time, regular watering and fertilization are necessary. As the newly seeded plants are delicate, we do not recommend applying any herbicide treatments for at least 4 months. It is normal to experience some undesirable weeds and crabgrass during this period, which can be treated after 4 months.
Ski's Landscaping CARE FOR NEW SOD & HYDROSEEDING
Our Process

After completing the yard preparation process, the next step is to proceed with lawn installation. To achieve this, a mixture comprising seed, fertilizer, and water is combined and vigorously stirred within a sizable tank. Subsequently, the resulting mixture is evenly dispersed onto the previously prepared soil by means of spraying.

The process of hydroseeding commences with soil preparation, which frequently involves utilizing heavy machinery to create an optimal seed bed while simultaneously leveling the surface and eliminating any undesirable debris. To ensure precision in delicate regions such as concrete edges and areas surrounding trees, a hand rake is commonly employed for meticulous adjustments.

Canonsburg Hydroseeding offers a swift, efficient, and cost-effective solution for achieving a stunning lawn with minimal exertion. It surpasses traditional seeding methods in terms of affordability, outperforming the cost of sod installation. Hydroseeded lawns not only exhibit superior growth but also boast prolonged durability, ensuring long-lasting results.

Watering regularly is of utmost importance at this stage.
However, it is crucial to allow the hydro-seed to dry for 24 hours after application before commencing the watering routine.
Once the mulch has thoroughly dried, you can initiate a watering schedule. It is essential to remain attentive and inspect for any areas that are excessively dry or prone to puddling.
We recommend using sprinklers to water each section for 15 minutes, three times a day. It is advisable to configure your system in a way that prevents puddling before each zone stops, and resumes watering before any area dries out. Please note that this guideline may vary depending on factors such as soil type and prevailing weather conditions (such as rain, wind, dry spells, humidity, etc.).
Maintaining this watering schedule for approximately three to four weeks will yield optimal results for your lawn.
To ensure proper nourishment for the newly planted seedlings, we have incorporated a high-quality starter fertilizer within the hydro-mulch.
For continued growth and development of your new lawn, it is crucial to apply additional doses of starter fertilizer every 3-4 weeks starting from the initial installation date.
Once the first growing season concludes, maintaining a consistent regimen of regular fertilizer, along with crabgrass and weed control, becomes vital to achieve optimal results.
When the grass reaches a height of 1.5 inches, it is time to mow. Temporarily adjust your mower deck to maintain a cutting height of 1-1.25 inches. This particular height encourages the gradual growth and thickening of the lawn, especially with slow-growing bluegrass. Maintain this cutting height for a period of 2-3 months.
Once the lawn is established, adopt a regular mowing routine with a height setting of 2.5-3 inches. It is important not to cut the grass any shorter, as this can be detrimental to the lawn's health. Remember the general guideline of never removing more than one-third of the grass blade length during each mowing session. Additionally, ensure that your mower blades are sharp to achieve a clean cut, maintain uniform color, and promote a denser lawn.
The presence of weeds in your new lawn is an inevitable occurrence.
Weed seeds exist in the soil and can also be spread through wind currents.
However, there's no need to worry as most weeds can be effectively managed. The most efficient method to combat weed competition is through regular mowing. It is important to prevent weeds from growing taller than 1-2 inches.
Once the lawn has matured, typically after about 5-6 regular mowings, it becomes more resilient and can withstand a weed control application.
If you have enrolled in our fertilizer program, you will receive a weed control application based on the specific timing of your lawn's seeding.
